This isn't the equipment-heavy version of a home workout -- it's the opposite experiment. Using only equipment small enough to fit in a single drawer, here's a genuine 20-minute full-body session that hits legs, core, and upper body without needing a single piece of furniture-sized equipment.
The equipment: genuinely three small items
A resistance loop band, a pair of ankle weights, and a set of core sliders. Together these take up less space than a pair of shoes, and every one of them is covered in a dedicated guide elsewhere on this site if you need to choose a specific model.
The 20-minute session
Warm-up, 2 minutes: banded lateral walks, both directions, to activate hips before the rest of the session.
Lower body, 6 minutes: banded squats, 3 sets of 15 reps. Ankle-weighted leg raises (standing or lying), 3 sets of 15 reps per leg.
Core, 6 minutes: sliding mountain climbers, 3 sets of 20 reps total. Sliding plank knee tucks, 3 sets of 10 reps.
Upper body and full-body, 6 minutes: band pull-aparts, 3 sets of 15 reps. Push-ups with a band across the back for added resistance, 3 sets to near-failure.
Rest 30-45 seconds between sets -- this session is built for a brisk, continuous pace rather than long rest periods.
Why this specific equipment combination works
Bands, ankle weights, and sliders each add resistance or instability to movements your body can already do, rather than requiring a fixed external load like a dumbbell. That's what keeps the whole kit genuinely small -- there's no heavy plate or bulky handle involved anywhere in this session, just tools that modify bodyweight movement.
Who this is actually for
This isn't the routine for someone chasing serious strength gains -- for that, adjustable dumbbells and the equipment in our $500 starter kit guide will get you further, faster. This is for genuinely minimal-footprint situations: a studio apartment with almost no storage, a shared space where equipment needs to disappear completely between uses, or simply wanting one no-excuses option that never requires digging equipment out from a closet.
